Extending from Krakatau volcano all the way to the city of Cirebon, this province is a diverse and culturally rich region of beautiful mountains, deep-green tea plantations, rugged wildlife reserves, lush botanical gardens, fertile rice paddies, and beaches with magnificent coral formations. The capital and cultural center of West Java is the fresh mountain city of Bandung. Lying in a high valley surrounded by mountains covered in tea plantations, the city is a bustling center of Sundanese cultural life. It is the site of at least 50 universities and colleges, many small academies, and such prestigious institutions as the Nuclear Research Center and Indonesia’s only aircraft industry. Bandung is also a center for industry and fine arts, luring musicians, dancers, and artists from all over Indonesia to study here. Bandung once referred as the “Parijs van Java”, because of its beauty and perfect weather with cool fresh air.
